CERTIFICATION & EQUIPMENT
Each participant successfully completing the START Rescue Training programs will receive a certificate of training. Industrial courses also receive required OSHA training documentation. START Rescue Training, Inc. can also arrange for 3rd party testing and evaluation according to NFPA 1006 Professional Qualification standards.

CLASSESBack to top ROPE RESCUE LEVEL I
(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: None
Rope Rescue Level I is a 16-hour course designed to teach rescuers how to access, package and evacuate the injured in vertical environments. Students will learn basic knots, rope rigging techniques, single point anchors, basket stretcher evacuations, including lowering and basic mechanical advantage raising systems. Patient consideration and handling will also be covered. Instructors provide continuous instruction and guidance. Safety is stressed at all times, and is the emphasis of all course contents.

(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I
Rope Rescue Level II expands on the skills learned in the Rope Rescue Level I course. Rigging for heavy rescue two person loads will be explored and practiced along with multi-point anchors, tension tie-back anchors, advanced belay systems, compound mechanical advantage systems, on-line pick offs, two person rescue systems, attendant litter systems and guiding line systems. BASIC RAPPELLING
(8 Hours)
Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I preferred.
Basic Rappelling is an 8-hour program, which involves personal safety, equipment care and usage, basic knot tying, single point anchor systems for rappel operations, proper donning of harnesses, rappel techniques and belay systems. This is a good course for confidence building. Back to top BASIC ROPE ASCENDING
(8 Hours)
Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I & Basic Rappelling
Occasionally there is a need for rescuers to ascend a fixed lifeline. This program will explore basic techniques in rope ascension. The students will utilize soft and mechanical ascending devices. System change over from Rappel to Ascending and Ascending to Rappel will also be practiced. Back to top
ROPE RESCUE OPERATIONS
(40 hours)
Perquisite: None
This course is designed to provide you with the skill, knowledge and ability to perform rope rescue skills according to NFPA 1670 Operations and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level I standards for Rope Rescue. This program incorporates our popular modular based rope courses (Rope Rescue Level I, II, Basic Rappelling & Ascending), but is tailored to meet the Operations Level of NFPA 1670 specifically. The course skills include, hazard recognition, scene control and management, rescue rope, hardware, software, care and use, rescue knots, single point anchors, multi-point anchors, belay/safety systems, basic rappelling, basic ascending, self rescue, fixed brake lowering systems, rope based mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging and rescue litter systems, litter movement in the low angle and high angle environment. The Rope Rescue Technician course is an advanced course that will bring participants to the level of Rope Rescue Technician and meets all requirements for NFPA 1670 Rope Rescue Technician and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level II. Advanced skills in; team management, rope rescue physics, load factors, critical angles, constructing multi-point anchor systems, passing knots in systems, negotiating obstacles, offsets, constructing artificial high directional anchors, constructing high line rope systems and attendant litter systems will be explored and intensely practiced. Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level III
A program designed for the advanced rope rescuer, and explores the design, construction and use of various Artificial High Directional Anchor Systems, which can be deployed to assist with reducing over-the-edge trauma. Confined Space Rescue Awareness takes a look at the OSHA regulation for “Permit Required Confined Spaces - 1910.146” and “Emergency Rescue Services”. Entrant & Attendant duties, types of confined spaces, hazard recognition & control, atmospheric monitoring, PPE, rescue equipment and patient care considerations will all be discussed. Back to top
CONFINED SPACE RESCUE Level I - Operations
(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I
Confined Space Rescue starts off with OSHA 1910.146 and NFPA 1670 and 1006 requirements for Confined Space Rescue Operations and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level I. Topics covered includes, types of confined spaces, hazard recognition and control, atmospheric monitoring, personal protective equipment, rescue equipment and rigging techniques, attendant and entrant procedures, patient packaging, communications, SCBA/SABA management, confined space manipulation skills, rescue entry, patient removal and post rescue considerations. Students will be trained to the Rescue Entrant and Rescue Attendant level. Non-entry and entry type rescues will be practiced, including limited access spaces.

Structural Rope/Confined Space Rescue for Industrial Rescue Teams, concentrates on confined space and elevated platform rescues. This course will incorporate the Rope Rescue Level I and Confined Space Rescue programs together. Realistic rescue problems will be presented and practiced for the Industrial environment. Back to top
CONFINED SPACE RESCUE LEVEL II - TECHNICIAN
(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: Confined Space Rescue Level I
This program is an advanced course for the confined space rescue technician.
Program content is designed to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 for Confined Space Rescue Technician and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level II standards. Upon completion, students will gain the knowledge, skill and ability to preplan confined spaces for rescue, manage rescue operations, ability to control hazards, learn advanced skill in confined space rescue communications and participate in various scenarios for team building skills. LADDER RESCUE SYSTEMS
(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I
This course involves basic ropes and rigging skills incorporated with fire company ground and aerial ladders. Placing and rigging aerial ladders, ladder derricks, ladder "A" frames, leaning ladders and emergency evacuations will be explored and practiced. This course is a great compliment to "FAST" team operations and Structural Collapse Teams. Back to top TOWER RESCUE

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Level I
The Tower Rescue program was designed for the Telecommunication, Railroad, Transportation and Electric Power Generation Industry. It includes the current OSHA guidelines for fall protection, as well as new guidelines for Rope Access Technicians. A union with traditional fall protection and climbing/rescue equipment will be explored for the maximum safety of climbers and rescuers. Rescue techniques for various situations dealing with ill or incapacitated climbers will be practiced in very intensive hands-on sessions. Back to top TRENCH RESCUE AWARENESS

The Trench Rescue Awareness program is a 3-hour program, which contains classroom presentation, regarding the safety, size-up, hazard recognition, hazard control and first response level trench rescue considerations. The program will also detail how to form a Trench Rescue Response Team as well as looking at additional resource capabilities.
Back to top TRENCH RESCUE LEVEL I “OPERATIONS”

Prerequisite: None
The Trench Rescue program teaches rescuers trench rescue operations, trench collapse, soil types, federal regulations, ICS, preplanning, hazard recognition and control, patient assessment and treatment considerations, stabilization, rescue and recovery, proper shoring techniques utilizing timber and specialized equipment. Both classroom lesson plans and hands-on practices in real trenches will give the student a well-rounded understanding of the typical trench collapse. Back to top TRENCH RESCUE LEVEL II “TECHNICIAN”

Prerequisite: Trench Rescue
This course involves team development, equipment and organization of a trench collapse response team. In addition, hands-on training with more complex scenarios, such as; "T" and "L" trenches, heavy equipment movement, air bags and supplement sheeting and shoring in deep trenches. Back to top STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE RESCUE AWARENESS

Prerequisite: None
All responders should consider this course. Understand the hazards associated with structural collapse and what you need to know to handle an incident and what requirements you should consider when developing a Collapse Response Team. NFPA standards and minimum requirements for various levels of response. Considerations for local, state and federal response teams will also be discussed. Back to top EMERGENCY BUILDING SHORING, OPERATIONS

Prerequisite: Structural Collapse Rescue Awareness & Trench Rescue and Confined Space Rescue recommended
This course is designed to give the students a basic understanding of the NFPA 1670 standard requirements for Building Collapse Operations. This course will concentrate on basic assessment skills, size-up and hazard control at a scene of a building collapse for the Basic, Light (light frame) and Medium (heavy wall) level response. Students will explore various ways to conduct Emergency Shoring Operation. Techniques will include how to construct vertical, horizontal, window, door and basic raker shore systems, as well as understanding basic concepts for breaching walls and floors. Back to top
STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE RESCUE TECHNICIAN
(30 HOURS)
Prerequisite: Emergency Building Shoring
This 30-hour program is for
Emergency Responders who will encounter structural collapse at the technician
level response under NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level II
standards. Various techniques and
operations are taught with the emphasis on rescuer safety. Techniques include; concrete breaching &
breaking, heavy lifting & moving, rigging techniques, crane safety and
advanced shoring concepts. This
program includes techniques utilized by the FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Task
Forces, but are designed for local and regional response organizations. Classroom presentations and extensive
hands-on practical sessions are all part of this intensive program.

Prerequisite: None
The Water & Flood Rescue Awareness program is designed for all Emergency Service Personnel. It will give attendees a basic overview in understanding water type emergencies, preplanning, SAFE RESCUE, self rescue, types of water rescue equipment, Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s), hypothermia, body behavior, basic search techniques and body recovery. WATER & FLOOD RESCUE “Swift Water”, TECHNICIAN
(16 Hours)
Prerequisite: Water & Flood Rescue “Swift & Boat Based” Operations and be a Rope Rescue Technician
This intensive hands-on program is designed to meet the Technician Level for NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer Level II. Application of rope based techniques used in the Swift Water environment, line systems with non-motorized watercraft, line deployment, “GO” rescues and team building skills.

ICE RESCUE - TECHNICIAN
(8 Hours)
Prerequisite: Ice Rescue Awareness
At this level, rescuers will
perform hands-on techniques in the use of ice rescue equipment in an actual ice
rescue setting. Self Rescue, reaching,
throw and go techniques as well as the use of specialized ice rescue crafts
will be extensively practiced. This
program is also designed to meet NFPA 1670 Technician level and NFPA 1006
Technical Rescuer Level II.

Prerequisite: A minimum of the basic level rescue techniques required for the discipline(s) your team will be responsible for.
Our Rescue Team Building & Development program is designed to give your rescue team the working knowledge to develop and implement action plans, develop individual team member job functions, as well as, intensive skills development in multiple rescue situations. The team building can be geared to any rescue discipline. This unique program will give participants a real world understanding of technical rescue operations and how to work with minimum equipment and manpower while gaining optimum performance and safety. Group and individual evaluations will be conducted and a final report provided to your organization.

Prerequisite: Lockout/Tag out
This course is designed so that upon completion, students will be able to identify and establish proper entry permit procedures, recognize and control hazards, ventilation, conduct atmospheric monitoring, personal protective equipment, non-entry rescue and comply with OSHA 1910.146 requirements for Entrant and Attendant. CONFINED SPACE ENTRY SUPERVISOR
(4 Hours)
Prerequisite: Confined Space Entry & Attendant
To meet the requirements of OSHA 1910.146 “Entry Supervisor”. Participants will become aware of specific requirements of the “Entry Supervisor”. Topics include; verification of permits, safe entry conditions, ventilation practices, atmospheric monitoring requirements, confined space communications, rescue response requirements, training verification, documentation and proper record keeping. LOCKOUT / TAGOUT

Lockout/Tagout is designed to make participants aware of the hazards related to the accidental release of energy, and how to control the release of energy, through proper Lockout/Tagout procedures.

FALL PROTECTION
( 8 & 16 hours)
Prerequisite: None
These programs are designed to identify and comply with federal OSHA regulations on “Fall Protection” and competent person. Programs will cover both general industry and construction requirements. Course content includes: regulations including the new ANSI Z359 fall protection standards, fall forces, equipment selection, care and use, anchorage, protective systems, suspension trauma, competent person and developing rescue action plans. Classroom lesson plans and hands-on sessions will be conducted to give participants the working knowledge needed to prevent fall injuries. Hours depend on your specific site requirements. Back to top ROPE ACCESS LEVELS I & II
(40 hours)
Prerequisite: None
Rope Access Levels I & II trains employees who are required to work at heights where ropes are used as the primary support, positioning or protection. This course covers the requirements set by SPRAT (Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians) for Rope Access Worker and Rope Access Lead Technician. Course content includes; understanding of fall protection, safe and redundant systems for rope access work, descending, ascending and aid traverse, self rescue and team rescue skills. This program is designed for those who may not have any skills on-rope, but are required to access difficult areas. Rope Access is a means to accomplish such tasks on-rope, and can replace expensive alternatives such as scaffolding. This is a physically demanding intense program.
Custom designed Rope Access programs are available for specific industries, emergency responders, trained rope access workers, supervisors and rescue from fall arrest systems.
